Well, since my last post I’ve done two more National Championships and am heading towards another weekend at Fleetwood for the 2021 DF95 Nationals which I am sure will be another fun filled weekend of racing and social.
First weekend of September saw us down in Poole for the DF65 Nationals which was a 60 boat affair held in very light conditions which tested both skippers and race team to the max. I was pretty stoked to come away with 5th spot having spent all but one race in A fleet. It could have been third, and indeed was for some time of Sunday afternoon, however a mistake at the finish of the last race saw me drop six places in the race and lose third overall. Hey ho, the six hour drive home gave me some time to reflect and have a word with myself!
Another short work week then saw us back to Fleetwood for the RC Laser Nationals which was a rather tame social affair but the racing was strong in the small but elite fleet. You were either first or sixth in the leading group. Again, I was more than pleased with a second spot finish, one better than the weekend before.
Since then I’ve been hard at it in the workshop and today (Tuesday) I’m hoping to ship out the 30 odd orders that have come in over the last few weeks. This should see us very nearly up to date before we head off once again to Fleetwood for the DF95 Nationals. This event will be great, the wind looks like making an appearance for at least one of the days before perhaps getting it’s panties in a wad and moving to directions that don’t suit the venue particularly and getting up to a point where we might see some D rig action….at last! It’s certainly a tough field this year with lots of top international skippers making the journey to the historic pond at Fleetwood. I’d be happy with a top 15 finish in the event as I’m never too clever when it blows even though I’ve got the physique for it!
So I’m off to complete a couple of orders that need delivering to the event and then get into some boat prep before packing the van and getting an early start on Thursday. As usual the shop is open 247 to take your orders and we’ll be back at it again on Monday as we have a ten day window of production before we head to Eastbourne for a DF TT weekend.
